When it comes to choosing window blinds, there are many variables you have to cater to including the shape and style of the window. In order to be practical, the blind must not obstruct the window and make it harder to open and close. This is why you need to take into consideration the style of window before selecting your windows coverings. Here is an overview of different window styles and the best window covering solution to help you pick the perfect blind for your windows. Slider Windows Slider windows, slide horizontally to open. These windows are simple to use and can be covered by various window blinds as they are easy to cover. They allow great ventilation and don’t block the view. A majority of blinds suit these windows. So, it really depends on the room you install them in as to what blind will best complement them. In a bedroom, a roller or roman blockout blind will work best on these windows, as it will stop the sun waking you up every morning and allow you to get that Sunday sleep-in. However, in a bathroom or kitchen, a timber look Venetian will function well as they will not warp or crack with the humidity of these rooms. In a lounge or dining room, the best window solution will be either a light filtering roman blind or a timber Venetian as these blinds both add a stylish finish to the room, while still allowing plenty of light to filter in.   Single and Double Hung Windows Single hung windows have one fixed sash and one moveable, whereas double hung windows both sashes are movable and can move up and down in the windowsill. For single hung windows, most blinds will be well suited to this window such as Roller, Roman or Venetian Blinds. Honeycomb Top Down Bottom Up Blinds are the perfect selection for double hung sash windows.  Honeycomb Top Down Bottom Up Blinds allow you to pull the top of the blind down to let light and air through while keeping the bottom closed, or vice versa the top can be closed and the bottom can be pulled up to open it. Another option is to have both top and bottom open at the same time, which is great when you have double hung windows as it allows air into the room from both the top and bottom of the window, while keeping the sunlight out to cool the room.   Casement Windows Casement windows are hinged on the sides and either open inward or outward. The best window coverings for casement windows are an outside mounted blinds or Honeycomb Smartfit Blinds. The Smartfit Blinds sit inside the window opening allowing access and use of the window whilst also having light control. Both these options are very stylish and will add an elegant touch to your existing interior.   Picture Windows Picture windows are large, non-opening windows that transform your view into a stunning piece of art. Due to their size, picture windows can be a slightly tricky to cover. The best window covering solutions for picture windows are lightweight cellular blinds, or multiple blinds on one head rail to cover the entire window using either Roman Blinds, Roller Blinds or Timber Venetians. This is a good option if you wanted to avoid a type of blind that would have been too heavy to manoeuvre as one blind, using three blinds instead will make it easy to use while still creating a unified look. Bay Windows A bay window is a window that protrudes from the external wall of the house that usually comprises of three windows. Most window coverings work well with bay windows, however roman blinds really complement a bay window style, as they are soft and don’t take too much attention from this beautiful architectural feature. If the bay window is in a kitchen or lounge room a light filter roman blind is a great fit, as it will still allow light to flood into the room, which is generally the purpose of a bay window.  However, in a bedroom a blockout roman blind is the best choice so the early morning sun doesn’t wake you up.   Sliding Glass Doors Sliding glass doors are great for joining your internal living space to an external living space such as a patio or veranda, making your house feel more open and spacious. They are especially great for summer entertaining outside, giving you easy access to the house. Vertical honeycomb blinds are the perfect choice for sliding glass doors. They are designed to move horizontally so they are easy to move out of the way when operating your sliding glass doors. They will blend into the wall when closed as they fold down to almost nothing. One of the many benefits of honeycomb blinds is insulation, they will cut down your energy bills as they create a barrier by trapping air in the honeycomb cells. This will keep your house cooler in summer and warmer in winter and will prevent your air conditioning or heating using up so much energy.   Skylights A skylight is a window set in the ceiling at the same angle. They allow light to flood into the room which is great except if they are located in a bedroom, then this will most likely require a blind to protect yourself from that early morning sun and allow a sleep-in. Blinds can also be useful on skylights in other rooms such as offices to stop glare on computer or TV screens and lounge or dining rooms to protect furniture from harsh UV rays during the day. There are specially made blinds for skylights that ensure the blind does not sag when installed. So now you are equipped with the knowledge to choose the right blind for your window style, you will now be able to make an informed and practical choice. It really does make a difference taking into account the window style when choosing a blind as it makes both the window and blind more functional and easy to use.
